Thermal desorption and pyrolysis GCxGC-TOFMS enable the rapid, complementary characterization of polymers with minimal sample preparation requirements. Thermal desorption probes volatile and semi-volatile compounds, including additives, residual monomers, and contaminants, whereas pyrolysis reveals polymeric backbone composition through diagnostic markers. Combined with non-targeted workflows, accurate-mass measurements, database matching, and complementary chemical ionization data, these methods support confident polymer characterization.
